Glottic Cancer: Is it Time to Change to More Sparing RT-Techniques?
نویسندگان
چکیده
For decades, the standard of care for radiation treatment of early larynx cancers has been conventional treatment using opposed lateral fields encompassing the larynx and overlying neck structures, including the adjacent carotid arteries. The relative simplicity of the 3D technique and the excellent outcomes were shown in several series [1-4]. The ultimate local control is even higher if we take into account the availability of surgical salvage using hemilaryngectomy or total laryngectomy.

Volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy sparing the thyroid gland for early-stage glottic cancer: A dosimetrical analysis
Previous studies on advanced radiotherapy (RT) techniques for early stage glottic cancer have focused on sparing the carotid artery. However, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the dosimetric advantages of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in terms of sparing the thyroid gland in early-stage glottic cancer patients. In total, 15 cT1N0M0 glottic cancer patients treated with defin...
متن کاملImportance of total radiation dose and overall treatment time in T1 early glottic cancer
Background: In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the treatment outcome of 63 patients with T1 early glottic cancer treated with RT alone to determine the treatment outcome and the prognostic factors affecting local control. Materials and Methods: All patients were treated by 6 MV photons with conventional bilateral fields up to a median dose of 66 Gy in 33 fractions. Results: The 5-year l...
متن کاملDosimetric comparison of conventional and field-in-field techniques in early stage breast cancer radiotherapy
Introduction: Breast conserving surgery followed by adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) of the whole breast is accepted as the treatment of choice in early stage breast cancer. Due to breast irregularities, it is difficult to access homogenous dose distribution with conventional techniques. Currently, it is possible to use varied breast irradiation techniques, such as field- in-field (F...
متن کاملEvaluating Post-Radiotherapy Laryngeal Function with Laryngeal Videostroboscopy in Early Stage Glottic Cancer
OBJECTIVE Dysphonia is common among patients with early stage glottic cancer. Laryngeal videostroboscopy (LVS) has not been routinely used to assess post-radiotherapy (RT) voice changes. We hypothesized that LVS would demonstrate improvement in laryngeal function after definitive RT for early-stage glottic cancer. STUDY DESIGN Blinded retrospective review of perceptual voice and stroboscopic ...
متن کاملCarotid sparing intensity modulated radiotherapy on early glottic cancer: preliminary study
PURPOSE To compare the dose distribution between carotid sparing intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and opposed lateral field technique (LAFT), and to determine the effects of carotid sparing IMRT in early glottic cancer patients who have risk factors for atherosclerosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten early glottic cancer patients were treated with carotid sparing IMRT. For each patient, the...
